An Inside Look At The Different Types of Plastic Surgery

Plastic surgery is defined as a type of surgery that involves the reconstruction of facial and body defects. This reconstruction can take place in order to correct birth defects, to rectify the damages on a person due to trauma, burns and diseases, and of course, to improve a person’s appearance for their own personal reasons.

Types of plastic surgery:

Plastic surgery is a wide scope of surgeries/procedures that is primarily devoted to the alteration of appearance either for reconstruction or aesthetic purposes. Below are some of the sub disciplines of plastic surgery, although they are not exhaustive:

Burn Surgery
Burn surgery is a type of surgery whose patients have suffered severe burns that have extensively damaged their skin. This type of surgery takes place in two phases: acute burn surgery which takes place immediately after the burn and reconstructive surgery which takes place after the burn wounds have healed.

Craniofacial surgery
This is also divided into two types. The first is pediatric craniofacial surgeries that are mostly concerned with treatment of defects on soft tissues and other congenital anomalies. The second is adult craniofacial surgery which basically deals with the treatment of fractures.

This is a delicate type of surgery. It involves the reconstruction of missing tissues by transferring a piece of tissue to the reconstruction site and reconnecting the blood vessels.

Hand surgery
As the name implies, this branch of surgery is mostly concerned with treating ailments of the hand. It involves treating chronic diseases and acute injuries that have led to the malformations of the hand or wrist.

Pediatric surgery
This branch of plastic surgery revolves around correcting defects at birth since basically most defects can be easily corrected the younger the patient is.

While this actually isn’t surgery, it is commonly done by cosmetic surgeons and dermatologists. This is an awesome new procedure that freezes fat away and is a great alternative to liposuction for those who have some stubborn fatty areas that they can’t seem to get rid of through diet and exercise. It’s very simple, effective, and safe. Not long ago, I received my Zeltiq coolsculpting procedure des moines from Dr Cherny at Heartland Plastic Surgery. It was the best decision I’ve ever made. I couldn’t be more happy with the results and how simple the treatment was to do.

Cosmetic surgery
This is the most renowned type of plastic surgery and is synonymous with the term plastic surgery. Unlike the other types of plastic surgery, this is a voluntary kind because those who undergo it often have no physical defects but only wish to alter their appearance.

People alter their appearances for many reasons but primarily because they are not content with what they see in the mirror. If one perceives that they have a physical fault, and this is subject to much manipulation, then they may opt for plastic surgery to correct that fault.

Others choose to undergo plastic surgery in order to be more attractive to members of the opposite sex. In a bid to impress their targets, these people might get implants on parts of their body deemed attractive to those whose attention they want.

The most common types of cosmetic surgery include breast augmentation, which involves the reshaping and resizing of breasts in order to make them more symmetrical or attractive, liposuction, which involves slimming and reshaping certain parts of the body, tummy tuck which affords people the enviable flat tummy, among myriads others.

Plastic surgery is therefore a wide field of surgery that explores many other types of surgery besides anesthetic plastic surgery. It is however a field of surgery that deserves some reverence seeing how much psychological torture it saves those who undergo it, especially when they have to due to circumstances beyond their control.
